The new location is expected to be finished by 2025 and will accommodate up to 25 million smaller items available on Amazon.com.au.
This new center aligns with Amazon Australia’s dedication to the country, aiming to enhance job prospects and increase product variety and delivery assurances for its customers across the nation.
Once fully operational, the facility is anticipated to create approximately 2,000 local jobs, offering the chance to work alongside advanced robotic systems.
With the excavation phase already underway, the construction of this cutting-edge facility will add another 2,000 job opportunities for the area.
Amazon Australia Building Largest Warehouse in the Country
The new fulfillment center will span about 209,000 square meters (2.2M sq. ft.) across four stories and supersedes Amazon’s Western Sydney robotics site by 9,000 square meters (97,000 sq. ft.), making it the largest warehouse ever constructed in Australia.
This center follows the inauguration of Amazon Australia’s first robotics site in Western Sydney in 2022, which effectively doubled the company’s operational footprint.
The new fulfillment center will feature state-of-the-art Amazon Robotics technology to assist employees, serve customers, and contribute to the company’s mission to offer a seamless experience for its Australian customers.
Working alongside employees, robots will transport ‘pods’ of inventory, streamlining the process of storing items for sale or picking them for new customer orders.
“We’re proud to be making this significant investment in Victoria, creating around 2,000 job opportunities to support the local economy,” said Janet Menzies, Amazon Australia’s Country Manager.
“These are the jobs of the future and offer the opportunity to work alongside advanced technology and earn competitive pay in a safe and positive work environment.
“The site will also help connect Victorian customers to local small and medium-sized businesses, enhancing delivery outcomes and selection for customers in the state.
“We chose Melbourne as the home of our first fulfillment center when we launched in Australia in 2017, and the introduction of this state-of-the-art robotics fulfillment center in the city’s north continues our commitment here.”
This new fulfillment center in Melbourne will mark Amazon’s sixth operational hub in the city and reinforces the company’s existing network of fulfillment and logistics facilities in Victoria.
These include fulfillment centers located in Dandenong South and Ravenhall, in addition to Amazon’s first standalone sorting center in Australia, and a pair of Amazon Logistics sites.
