This update represents some of the most significant new features and enhancements made since the launch of the BigCommerce for WordPress plugin in December 2018, including the ability to create multi-region shopping experiences on a single or multiple WordPress sites.
With BigCommerce for WordPress, merchants using WordPress to power their online stores have access to more sophisticated ecommerce technology that allows them to scale their ecommerce business without sacrificing everything already built on WordPress.
In previous versions of the plugin, merchants could link a single BigCommerce store to multiple WordPress instances.
With BigCommerce for WordPress 3.2.0, merchants can serve multiple regional versions of their product catalog from a single WordPress site.
“Our commerce APIs and deep integration with WordPress give merchants the ability to create engaging WordPress-driven website experiences, make changes quickly and truly differentiate their brand, all while retaining the speed and lower overall maintenance of our SaaS platform. In just six months, we’ve made hundreds of changes across 28 plugin releases, all of which culminated in our ability to support complex business use cases, including multi-brand, multi-region sites, through BigCommerce for WordPress.”
Jimmy Duvall, chief product officer at BigCommerce
New experiences
With the release of multi-site functionality on BigCommerce for WordPress 3.2.0, merchants will be able to enable a range of complex experiences, including:
- Multi-Region – The addition of multi-region capabilities gives merchants with a global footprint the ability to tailor product merchandising to the specific regions in which they sell. This includes enabling the ability to translate product details into the local language and display prices in the local currency.
- B2B – With BigCommerce for WordPress 3.2.0, merchants can accommodate B2B-specific experiences, whether that includes maintaining separate wholesale and retail sites or offering customers a “vendor portal” that provides customized product catalog and pricing for each vendor.
- Custom Content-First Product Pages – The latest version of BigCommerce for WordPress also includes the ability to decouple core product details like title, SKU, image, description, price and add to cart button from the product detail page. They can now be placed anywhere via shortcodes or the Gutenberg editor in a page or posts.
