Popular small parcel shipping platform Sendle announced it is increasing its shipping rates effective February 1, 2021, with the lowest shipping rate going up from $3.20 to $3.45.
Sendle launched in 2014 in Australia and entered the US market in 2019 with a new office in Seattle, Washington. The company does not operate its own logistics network and relies on third-party logistics and parcel carriers to deliver its packages.
Most courier companies adjust rates at the beginning of the year, but this rate adjustment for the US seems to be tied to Sendle’s domestic reliance on USPS for many of its shipments. The US Postal Service announced it was raising its rates on the service levels Sendle typically uses on January 24, 2021.
In the US, Sendle’s shipping coverage includes the contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, US PO Boxes, and domestic military bases. All of these types of addresses are served by the US Postal Service.
However, evens as it uses USPS, Sendle does not offer shipping services to Military or diplomatic (APO, FPO, and DPO) addresses and certain US territories such as Guam and American Samoa.
These addresses usually require customs documents and the Sendle service currently does not offer international shipping. While Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are also US territories, they are exempt from the customs declaration requirement if the shipment is mailed via the US Postal Service.
In Australia, Sendle offers international shipping, but to date, the company has not said if or when it may expand international services to US shippers.
With so many shipping options today for sellers, the company’s niche is that it simplifies how shipments are priced by breaking down parcels into five main categories, Micro, Mini, Small, Medium and Large.
While there are weight and size limitations for each category and the largest package a shipper can currently send with Sendle is 20lbs & 864in³, the simplicity of the system aims to satisfy the shipping needs for many marketplace sellers and online merchants.
Sendle also offers discounts for frequent shippers and has integrations with many popular shipping and marketplace platforms such as eBay, Etsy, Shopify, and BigCommerce.
Carbon Neutral Shipping
Another unique aspect of Sendle is that its service is 100% Carbon Neutral Shipping. While its vendors cannot make the same claim, the company offsets the CO2e emissions from its transport and logistics partners by supporting projects that reduce emissions. Some of the examples Sendle gives are that it supports projects that regenerate precious forests, replace old equipment with more efficient technology, or even train communities in beekeeping.
It even offers merchants the ability to download a Sendle 100% Carbon Neutral Delivery sticker to promote that the seller’s shipping process is earth-friendly.
