eBay Kick Starts Holiday Shopping with ‘First Minute’ Early Daily Deals

eBay launched a campaign to get early holiday shoppers to buy on its marketplace. The company headlined the marketing push as “eBay Kicks Off ‘First Minute’ Holiday Shopping with New Early Deals, Price Matching, and Fast Delivery Speeds.”

Until November 9th, the marketplace will feature Daily Deals that reveal limited-time ‘First Minute’ each day with savings of 30% to 60% of regular prices. Also, the Daily Deals come with free shipping and price guarantees.

eBay announced a few sample deals it has chosen for this promotion:

  • Samsonite 3-piece Tenacity Set (over 60% off)
  • KitchenAid® 6 Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer (over 55% off)
  • Diamondback Overdrive Sport Hardtail Mountain Bike (over 45% off)
  • Apple iPad Pro 12.9″ Retina Display 128GB Wi-Fi (over 35% off)
  • Huffy Bantam 29″ 21 Speed Aluminum Mountain Bicycle (over 30% off)

New Internal Study Shows Demand for Early Deals

eBay cites an internal study it conducted that found nearly half of Americans (45%) start holiday shopping well before Black Friday. The exclusive ‘First Minute’ promotion targets these early shoppers.

“We found that choice and convenience are the biggest reasons shoppers start sooner in the season1, so we designed a collection of competitive early deals to offer their pick of top brands across electronics, toys, apparel and more. There’s simply no reason to wait for Black Friday to find the best prices or top gifts this holiday season when shoppers can start AND finish early with eBay.”

Suzy Deering, Chief Marketing Officer of eBay North America

But since eBay relies on third parties to offer sales, how can it offer such guaranteed low prices?

A quick review of some of the items on today’s ‘First Minute’ promotion reveals it has made deals with major manufacturers to offer the products on their platform.

A KitchenAid® mixer deal was offered by KitchenAid® and a Nikon Cameras was sold by an authorized reseller for Nikon refurbished products. Other deals seem to use large volume sellers as fulfillers for the products.

The Daily Deals is an invitation-only program. Sellers can learn more about it here.

eBay is also spreading the news on television and digital channels using the same advertising agency that developed most of the campaigns this year.

Five new spots, spotlighting how early shopping helps customers find the unique and special gifts will air on top television networks as well as on @eBay’s Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.

eBay also created this infographic to make their point about how early shoppers can benefit sellers:

eBay Sellers Take Note

While this program may be designed for Daily Deals eligible sellers, the fact is eBay is promoting holiday shopping early this year.

As a seller, you may be able to gain additional exposure if you run your own promotions for deals on the marketplace. The increases in traffic this is anticipated to generate, should improve traffic to your listings as well.
