Having successfully partnered with the nation’s hottest series for the previous two seasons, eBay UK is back to champion its battle against fast fashion.
This summer, eBay UK aims to fill the wardrobe with more pre-loved treasures, encouraging a more conscious approach to shopping. In a new twist, eBay UK is inviting the public to list their own pre-loved items, offering the chance to make heads turn in the Love Island villa.
Amy Bannerman, now serving as eBay’s in-house Pre-loved Style Director, will once again curate a stunning collection of fashion sourced from eBay to dress the Islanders in pre-loved attire for series 10.
In pursuit of another iconic statement piece – akin to the legendary yellow Versace co-ord initially owned by Maria Semenova in the 90s and later worn by Tasha Ghouri, Olivia Hawkins, and Ellie Spence – Bannerman and eBay are now reaching out to sellers for assistance by inviting them to participate by listing their pre-loved gems!
Sellers just need to simply list their item for sale on eBay UK and share a picture of it on social media using the hashtag #MyLoveIslandListing by Wednesday, May 31st. eBay UK sellers can seize this opportunity to play a part in the fashion revolution and leave a lasting impression on the Love Island journey.
“We need you! One of my favorite things about pre-loved fashion is the story behind each piece and I love being able to continue each piece’s lifecycle,” said Amy Bannerman, eBay’s Pre-loved Style Director.
“In particular, we’re on the hunt for brands including Rat and Boa, House of CB and Arne. Co-ords are key, whether it’s short sleeve shirts and shorts for the guys or maxi skirts and corset tops for the girls.
“We also know the Islanders like to show a little skin, so please do dig out those high-slit skirts and cut-out dresses that although might no longer be right for you, would be perfect for the new Islanders. Simply head to eBay and sell me your pre-loved item, for the chance for it to end up in the villa wardrobe!”
Mirroring the shift away from fast fashion depicted on the screen, viewers at home have embraced the trend, resulting in a remarkable surge in searches for ‘pre-loved fashion’ on eBay UK.
During series nine, there was an astounding increase of over 1400% in such searches compared to series eight. Additionally, the online marketplace has witnessed a 24% rise in new circular businesses joining the platform in 2023, reflecting the growing interest in sustainable and second-hand fashion.
“Our Love Island partnership has been loved by the Islanders and the public alike and best of all it continues to inspire people to shop pre-loved first – which is what this partnership is all about,” said Kirsty Keoghan, Global GM of Fashion at eBay.
“We are so excited to be back for an even bigger and better summer of pre-loved and are encouraging fans to get selling over the next two weeks, your items might just end up on your TV screen very soon!”
Recent findings reveal that eBay has experienced a significant surge in pre-loved item sales on the platform, averaging one item sold per second over the past year.
Furthermore, since the inception of the Love Island partnership, pre-loved fashion listings have witnessed an impressive year-on-year growth of nearly 20%.
These statistics clearly demonstrate the ongoing influence the partnership has on consumer shopping habits and preferences.
“We are thrilled to be working even more closely with eBay this year as our headline sponsor. As a production company we have been working up new ways of seeing pre-loved fashion on screen and the ideas behind conscious ways of shopping,” said Mike Spencer, Creative Director of Love Island at Lifted Entertainment.
“This series, we will see a new way of demonstrating the pre-loved clothing cycle, along with the other ways in which we continue to grow as a more ‘thoughtful’ production. Bring on the summer!”
