eBay UK Updates Terms of Global Shipping Program Due to BREXIT

eBay UK issued an update today to the Terms and Conditions of the Global Shipping Program (GSP) that were necessary to comply with new regulations due to BREXIT. These changes only impact UK sellers that opted into eBay’s GSP service.

eBay explained the changes were a direct result of the UK leaving the European Union. UK eBay sellers will need to take all necessary steps to ensure they are in the position to export items outside of the United Kingdom including where applicable, obtaining an EORI number (Economic Operators Registration and Identification number) for export to the European Union.

These changes will have an immediate effect for new sellers using GSP and will apply to existing sellers 30 days from today (6 February 2021).

UK sellers don’t need to take any further action to accept the updated Terms and Conditions. However, if sellers wish to opt-out of the GSP program, they can go to this link.

eBay Sellers Outside The UK May Also Be Impacted

Sellers located outside the UK that may have inventory in the UK and list items on the ebay.co.uk may also have to comply with these new requirements and should review the new terms as well.

This is just one of the many changes BREXIT is causing to sellers who are located outside the UK but who are now having to deal with the impact of the UK leaving the EU and its Customs Union.

For example, on 1 January, non-UK sellers had to deal with a new VAT requirement that potentially requires them to collect the tax on shipments into the UK. BREXIT is causing headaches for not just UK sellers, but others as well.

Sellers who regularly sell to UK customers or who have inventory in the UK are all becoming increasingly caught up in the BREXIT situation. And with just about one week into this new reality, there will likely be more nuances and issues coming into focus that require the attention of non-UK sellers.
