Etsy Owned Music Gear Marketplace Reverb to Offset 100% of Shipping Emissions
With consumers increasingly reliant on ecommerce deliveries, Etsy is broadening its sustainability efforts to include music gear marketplace Reverb, the company’s most recent acquisition, in its carbon-offset initiative.
Etsy will now offset 100% of shipping emissions for every item purchased on Reverb by investing in environmental projects, including those that conserve hardwoods traditionally used to make musical instruments.
As with Etsy’s carbon offset program, there will be no additional cost to Reverb buyers or sellers.
Sustainability Important to Etsy and Its Community
- In 2019, Etsy became the first global ecommerce company to offset 100% of shipping emissions and has since offset over 173,000 metric tons of CO2. That’s equivalent to charging 22 billion smartphones.
- 90% of Etsy buyers say that environmental sustainability is important or very important to them.
- There has been a 62% increase in searches on Etsy for eco-friendly items in the last twelve months (compared to the same time the previous year).
- Sellers are on board as well: 87% believe it’s essential to run an environmentally responsible business.
“At Etsy, we take action to reduce our carbon footprint and invest in sustainability initiatives 365 days a year. In a world where consumers are more dependent than ever on online shopping, we believe it’s never been more important for us to further deepen our commitment.”
