FedEx Domestic Service (Air and Ground)
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, FedEx has been experiencing record-breaking volumes of shipments which has impacted its logistics network.
While the US domestic operations are mostly operating well, shippers sending items to international customers should contact their recipients to make them aware of potential delays.
Covid-19 restrictions in other countries can impact customs clearance, transport, and final delivery and shippers which could result in longer than usual delivery times.
Signature Suspension
FedEx advises it is still implementing no-contact pickups and deliveries, including maintaining its temporary suspension of acquiring the recipient’s signature for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground commercial and residential deliveries in the US and Canada.
The signature policy also applies to FedEx Freight in the US and shipments that normally require them as part of its same-day service, as well as in their FedEx Office retail stores and FedEx OnSite locations at various retailers.
When a shipment arrives with a signature required or is picked up at a FedEx location, the FedEx team member will ask for the first initial and last name of the recipient and enter “C-19” in the place of the signature image.
Should a shipment require an adult signature, the FedEx team members will attempt to collect the recipient’s signature using the team member’s device. If the recipient refuses to provide a signature, the team member will enter “C-19” in the place of the signature image.
FedEx requires that shipments with signatures are accepted by a person and will not leave parcels without a signature.
FedEx Money Back Service Guarantee
In March 2020, FedEx suspended its money-back guarantee service guarantee globally on all shipments due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, on April 6, 2021, FedEx reinstated its money-back service guarantee to select FedEx Express services for US domestic and US import/export shipments. These include:
- FedEx First Overnight
- FedEx Priority Overnight
- FedEx Standard Overnight
- FedEx International First
- FedEx International Priority
- FedEx International Priority Freight
The suspension of its money-back service guarantee continues for all other FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight, and FedEx Office services until further notice.
US Domestic Disruptions
High volume is continuing to challenge the FedEx Ground network and some shipments may not arrive by the expected delivery date.
Shippers should brace for potential increased delays of deliveries in December during the final weeks of the busy holiday season.
