Shopify Boosts Mobile Commerce with International Expansion of Shoppable Instagram Posts

Just yesterday, Shopify added Google Pay to its platform and today they make another big announcement by integrating shoppable Instagram posts for merchants located in Canada, Australia, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Brazil.

Facebook, as the owners of Instagram, continue to improve the Instagram platform to make it a mobile-centric marketplace like platform.

The popular and fun photo-sharing app is a great venue for Shopify’s hundreds of thousands of merchants in categories such as fashion, jewelry, beauty, furniture and home decor to grow their customer base in a meaningful way.

Riding on the successes from the earlier rollout for Shopify’s U.S. merchants, the expanded integration will allow shoppers all over the world to experience this unique commerce feature on Instagram.

In two days Shopify has managed to beef up its mobile features on its platform. While the company already offered Apple Pay, yesterday’s inclusion of Google Pay expanded the mobile experience to the two most prolific global mobile platforms.

As mobile shopping continues to become more dominant among shoppers, merchants must adapt to the changing marketing and payment solutions required to improve conversion.

Mobile users now have a simple way to shop on Instagram.

Find the products they like and if the Shopify merchant connected the Instagram post to its store, easily checkout on Shopify using stored debit or credit card, and shipping information from either Google Pay or Apple Pay.

    What about the product features, specifications, reviews and all. Will these be accessible on the Instagram post?
    And when can we expect this feature in India.

    1. The Instagram shoppable posts are definitely a work on progress and the complexity of structured data may not be something that Instagram will venture into. I suspect, Instagram will use image search as its main vehicle for users to find product posts. I am sorry we have no information about when this may come to India. Hopefully soon as I can’t imaging this would be very difficult to implement.
