Uber announced this week they are expanding its local same-day Uber Connect package delivery service to 2,400 new US cities and towns.
Originally rolled out in April, the company has continued to improve the service and added new features. The latest updates include:
- ‘Receive a package’ delivery option: In addition to sending packages, users can now receive or request for a package. This could be beneficial for some service business but also to handle returns.
- A more accessible, updated booking experience that saves time: Uber made it simpler to access the product when a user first opens the redesigned Uber app, along with clearer instructions that save time when the user is ready to send – or receive – a package.
- Improved package tracking that delivers peace of mind: In the Uber app, Connect senders and recipients can track where a package is and when it will arrive.
- Enhanced driver and recipient communication: Delivery providers can now contact the recipient at the time of drop off. And if requested an item from someone else, the driver can contact that person too at the time of pickup.
Uber Connect was built to provide a contactless experience. Customers simply meet their delivery person at the curb after a request is booked, carefully deposit their delivery items in the vehicle, and track the package as they would on an Uber trip.
The update to the Uber Connect service enables more small business merchants to expand their delivery options to include same-day cost-effective local delivery. Especially this holiday season with traditional shipping carriers struggling to maintain on-time delivery standards, online SMBs adding a local delivery option to their site could bring last-minute sales as the Christmas deadline approaches.
