USPS Service Status on Domestic Services and Shipments (11/16/2021)

Here is our list of known disruptions and suspensions of USPS domestic services based on information the Postal Service provides to the public and in Industry alerts. We may include at times issues reported in the media if they impact a significant part of the country.

Even though the Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect operations in some areas as the Delta wave surges in parts of the country which results in worker shortages, most domestic problems are generally caused by natural disasters or a specific facility issue.

Also, as we enter the busy 2021 holiday season, with USPS already having announced they are slowing down some services permanently and increasing prices on others temporarily, peak season will likely bring another big challenge to the Post Office as they are required to take in any mail piece and cannot throttle intake as other carriers can.

For the purpose of this information, we consider “domestic” any shipment going to the contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, or any other US territory.

Also, military and diplomatic mail are included here except USPS does not actually deliver mail outside the US once handed over to the military in the US for international transport.

This information was last updated on 11/16/2021.

USPS Advisory Regarding Covid-19 Related Service Impacts

Some post offices may have to change hours with little notice that may impact retail services, drop-off and pick-up of mail, and access to Post Office boxes or other services. While most Post Offices allow access to PO Boxes 24/7, staffing may delay the delivery of such mail to the box.

Masks and Social Distancing requirements may apply in some areas where local ordinances and Covid-19 mitigation rules are in force.

The US Postal Service is not reporting nationwide disruptions from Covid-19 related issues. Some third-party industry data we see seems to suggest that on aggregate, most postal parcel shipments are currently arriving within a 3 to 4 day window.
