This state-of-the-art facility marks Walmart’s largest fulfillment center to date and promises to enhance the retailer’s order fulfillment capabilities and shipping speeds.

Ann Lathrop, the chief strategy officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, expressed pride in welcoming this next-generation Walmart fulfillment center, recognizing it as a significant investment in both the industry and the people of Indiana.

Lathrop emphasized Walmart’s longstanding role as a valuable corporate partner in the state and applauded their expanding commitment in Hancock County.

The McCordsville fulfillment center is the second of four next-generation facilities that combine the power of human resources, technology, and machine learning to facilitate faster shipping and delivery while boosting Walmart.com’s order fulfillment capacity.

Designed to expand access to next- or two-day shipping, this facility, in conjunction with Walmart’s existing fulfillment network, will extend the retailer’s reach to 95% of the U.S. population.

In addition, the space will be leveraged by Walmart Fulfillment Services, the retailer’s end-to-end third-party fulfillment service, to fulfill Marketplace items.

“The McCordsville grand opening marks a major milestone in our supply chain modernization journey,” said Karisa Sprague, senior vice president, Fulfillment Network Operations for Walmart U.S. “With more customers shopping online, we’re leveraging state-of-the-art technology to increase speed of delivery all while creating tech empowered career opportunities for our associates.”

One of the significant advantages of this groundbreaking technology is the creation of new career pathways and improved job satisfaction for Walmart associates.

The McCordsville fulfillment center will provide employment for over 1,000 associates, and Walmart is actively hiring for various positions, including those focused on technology. Each job offers a potential career growth trajectory within the company.

Geoffrey Appleby, the general manager of the McCordsville fulfillment center, expressed his satisfaction that almost half of the associates at the new center had transitioned from the Plainfield facility.

In addition to the grand opening celebration, Walmart demonstrated its ongoing commitment to the Indiana community by donating $5,000 each to two local organizations: the Riley Children’s Foundation and the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation. These contributions underscore Walmart’s dedication to supporting the community.

In the fiscal year 2022 alone, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation donated over $48.8 million in cash and in-kind contributions to nonprofit organizations in Indiana. The company serves Indiana customers through 127 retail units and online via Walmart.com.

As a major employer in Indiana, Walmart currently employs over 43,000 associates in the state and actively supports local businesses, having spent $1.1 billion with Hoosier suppliers in the fiscal year 2023 and generating employment opportunities for 33,373 Hoosier suppliers
